Keith M. Farber, 82, a longtime Ontario resident, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, Monday, Sept. 25, 2006. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Ontario Elks Lodge, 20 S.W. Third St., Ontario.
Keith was born on Aug. 31, 1924, in Payette, the youngest of three sons of Ethel and Earl Farber. He graduated from Payette High School in 1942. While attending the University of Washington, he enlisted in the United States Army. From 1942 to 1945 he served with the 104th Infantry "TimberWolf" Division during World War II. Keith volunteered to serve as a forward observer with the infantry company. Among his World War II decorations were the Purple Heart and a combat Bronze Star with a V for valor.
After the war, he resumed his studies at he University of Washington where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon traternity.
In 1949, he married Claire Ann Teilmann of Boise. Thereafter, they resided in Ontario, where he became the owner of The Vogue dress shop. From 1949 until 1986, he also operated stores in Nampa, Caldwell and La Grande; and worked in his family's department store in Payette.
Keith enjoyed hiking with his family into many mountain lakes around McCall. At the family cabin in McCall, he spent many wonderful years!
In later years, he helped build his cabin at the Owyhee Reservoir, where he spent many years fishing, boating and enjoying activities with the other residents of "Fisherman Cove." Truly one of his favorite places was the Owyhee Reservoir with it's beauty and serenity.
Keith was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge No. 1690, for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Kiwanis Club and Malheur County Historic Society.
The family extends it's thanks to his doctors, nurses and caregivers.
He is survived by Claire, his wife; two sons, Randolph, Nampa and Steven, Gilbert, Ariz.; daughter, Christy Suciu and son-in- law Rick Hoyle, Eagle; six grandchildren, Scott, Kim, Rhett, Stephanie, Jackie and Sierra; brother, Robert L. (Barbara) Farber, Boise; sister-in-law, Millie Farber, Nampa. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved and cared for Keith.
His parents, Ethel and Earl Farber, and his brother, Dr. Jack Farber, preceded him in death.
